Print & Pants

One trend I’m happy to see maintain its staying power is the printed pant. Finally, the pant gets to be the statement! Last season, I purchased a pair of the ever popular Current/Elliot Leopard print jeans and to say I’ve gotten a lot of use out of them would be an understatement.

Mixing my love of prints and color, these spring pants are perfect for work or weekends. One trend I can’t support is wide-legged printed pants. It’s too much for me. If my bottoms are screaming, I want them to still have some semblance of sleek lines– not pajama bottoms.

NY Fashion Week: Part Two

New York Fashion Week concludes today. Overall, the collections have made me very excited for fall.

Alexander Wang Fall 2012

I think it’s the runner in me that feels drawn to the exposed shoulders. Just when you thought his fall collection was less sporty than spring!

Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2012

As usual, Marc Jacobs delivers clothing I want to wear. I’m intrigued by the feminine looks with heavier shoes.

Tory Burch Fall 2012

I love how ladylike Tory is making fall. However, even with its sophistication, the clothes maintain the colorful and travel-inspired (Asia?) influence of Burch.

Theyskens’ Theory Fall 2012

I love his use of textures.

Do you have a favorite collection from NYFW?

A Pop of Electric Blue

Neon colors are a big trend for spring but they’re just so bright. I think a pop of neon is fun but I don’t want to look like Jubilee from the 90′s cartoon X-Men. Electric Blue is the perfect compromise between fun and sophistication.

T by Alexander Wang | Cotton Knit Skirt

Alice + Olivia | High waist wide leg pants

K. Jacques | Jival Asymmetrical Thong Sandals

Alexander Wang | Marion with Rhodium Hardware

Are you a fan of neon? I must admit that hot pink holds a special place in my heart.

Enviable Work Heels

I’m ever so slowly beginning the “Andy transition,” or if you’re somehow unfamiliar with Devils Wears Prada, the frump-to-fashion work wardrobe transformation.

The next step is shoes. When you’re beginning a work wardrobe, it’s easy to fall into the solid, plain (black, brown, beige, grey) pump rut. However, I think there are other great “neutral” options that are still fashionable and versatile.

Zara | Court Shoe with cap-toe $89.90

Jean-Michel Cazabat | Leonida suede platform loafers $295

Kate Spade | Leena $325

Coach | Taffy pump $218

J. Crew | Pia calf-hair pump $360

Tory Burch | Jude leopard-print calf hair pumps $325

Alexander Wang | Elisa $550

Chic & Cozy Sweater Dresses

You know on those makeover shows like What Not to Wear when the hosts chastise the fashion victims for living in sweats? Well, they could have easily avoided that fate if they had just discovered the holy grail of fashion: the sweater dress. It’s perfectly acceptable to wear a sweatshirt! As your clothing! Check out some of the coziest and most fashion-forward options that will keep you comfortable and safely off reality television.

Sweater dresses look great with heels or ankle boots; and if you get cold, throw on some tights and extend their seasonal use.

Please note that the last sweater dress is called the “Keanu Reeves Sweater Dress.” I wish I could know the origins of that naming decision.

Do you exploit the sweater dress? What’s your favorite?

Great Fall Blazers

Fall can be a confusing time. We want the weather to cool off just enough to enjoy the fall foliage but too often it seems like we jump from summer to winter in the blink of an eye, trying to cram in as much pumpkin flavored foods in that brief window as we can. Well, as much as I love pumpkin, there’s another piece that feels perfectly fall to me: the blazer.

Some might say the blazer is a spring garment but I disagree. The trench is for spring; the blazer is for fall. Trenches look extremely weird with boots while blazers compliment them perfectly. Whether the weather is in the low 60′s or high 40′s, a great blazer can give the season it’s own unique feel.
