Covetable Sandals

I’m trying to work on distinguishing between needs and wants when it comes to my wardrobe. I might want that cute, print dress but what I really need right now is a new pair of sandals. The leather from the sandals I got in Barcelona have stretched out so far that my toes have to ferociously grip the sole to keep the shoes on my feet. Who knew sandals could cause more discomfort than high heels?

Rebecca Taylor | Claudia Perforated Sandals $215

See by Chloe | Lizard-effect leather sandals $340

Rosegold | Adrian Flat Sandals $138

Sam Edelman | Yelena High Heel Sandals $140

Belle Sigerson Morrison | Randy patent-leather sandals $175

See by Chloe | Broad Band Flat Sandals $250

See by Chloe | Scallop Ankle Wrap Flat Sandals $275

Another instance where I struggle: I love the See by Chloe heeled sandals but I should get the more practical Rosegold flats. Right?

Spring Shoe Cleaning

Yesterday, I accomplished a task that’s been on my to-do list for ages. I desperately needed to clean my shoes.

I’ve actually never cleaned shoes before. Perhaps it’s because most adolescents aren’t walking around in nice, leather shoes. However, now I have to face these things. I spent Saturday in my oxfords, and I was embarrassed at how disgustingly dirty they were. After trekking through city streets and all over Europe, they were looking a little… grimy.

My first challenge was acquiring the right cleaning products. My oxfords are suede (as well as one pair of my heels). Apparently leather cleaner and suede cleaner are two different things. As luck would have it, Target had everything I needed. I bought suede cleaner, suede protector, and leather cleaner for a grand total of $25.

To clean suede, you begin by using the brush cap to remove any dirt from the shoes. Afterwards, (in a well ventilated area, aka outdoors) spray a shoe with cleaner and brush. Repeat. Once the shoes have dried, spray them with protector.

My oxfords and heels looks SO much better! Of course, they’ll never look like brand new but they look like nicely, aged shoes.

Leather cleaning is a bit different. Apply a small amount of leather cleaner to a cloth and rub into the leather. Repeat until the entire shoe is done. Once dry, buff with a soft brush or cloth.

My biggest challenge was my J. Crew Riding Boots. I’ve had these for about 4 years and they’ve weathered many a winter. To say they were coated in salt and city would be an understatement. Just look how muted the color was. I can’t even begin to describe the change in their appearance and feel. It’s amazing.

All my leather shoes just soaked up the cleaner and look much more polished. My Tory Burch Revas look like new again.

My work heels are beautiful.

This is how I became addicted to cleaning shoes. I highly recommend trying it. It’s so rewarding!

5 Great Spring Accessories

I always struggle choosing a favorite season. Top two is easy: spring and fall, but deciding on the best is too difficult. However, the exciting reincorporation of color gives spring a definite edge.

J. Crew | Sunflower Necklace $68

Cole Haan | ‘Alisa’ Oxford $178

Juicy Couture | Straw and Burlap Fedora $68

J. Crew | Sydney Patent Sandals $228

Chan Luu | Set of five braided cotton friendship bracelets $65

New Year, New Closet

I think every girl dreams of having that perfect closet. A closet where you walk in and your clothes are beautifully organized by color, type, and season.

If I had a spare bedroom, I would consider turning it into a closet/gym. That probably sounds weird. For my last day off yesterday, I decided to spend the morning fixing my closet. Yes, I enjoy organization as a hobby. My closet was a disaster. I forgot to take a before picture so please refer to this lifelike artistic recreation.

It was a mess. Odds and ends I couldn’t find places for were shoved into wire baskets. The wire baskets of crap eliminated most of the hanging space which in turn wrinkled and sent my clothes into the black hole a.k.a. right side of my closet.

Thankfully, Home Depot pulled through with closet kits and storage boxes. I focused on using my closet for clothes, shoes, and bags only. Art supplies, books, decorations, and DVDs were sorted into boxes and placed either under my bed or up above my closet. Roughly four hours later, I was left with my dream (for the amount of space I have) closet.

Perfectly sorted by jackets, longer tops, dresses, long dresses, pants, skirts, and shorter tops. Did I mention I installed five shoe racks?

A nicely organized closet makes getting dressed much easier! I also have room for more clothing…

Fall 2011 Shoe Guide

Fall officially starts tomorrow and I feel like celebrating with a new pair of shoes. Here are the fall designer trends I’m coveting, along with more budget-friendly options.

Ankle boots

I decided to invest in the loafer. It’s a classic and versatile shoe that can carry over into spring when paired with a dress or cropped pants. Can’t wait to put these in heavy rotation. Though I really do like those Report ankle boots…

What shoes will you be wearing this fall?
