Had a great run this morning in my Easter egg-esque shoes followed by a coma inducing brunch.
Spring is in the air!
I instantly fell in love with this look that’s currently featured on Madewell.com. I think pastel shorts are a great spring piece. They offer a bit of subdued color that still work well with warmer knits (when the weather isn’t quite cooperating).
They’re like Spring Louis Vuitton and cotton candy rolled into one!

Yesterday, I accomplished a task that’s been on my to-do list for ages. I desperately needed to clean my shoes.
I’ve actually never cleaned shoes before. Perhaps it’s because most adolescents aren’t walking around in nice, leather shoes. However, now I have to face these things. I spent Saturday in my oxfords, and I was embarrassed at how disgustingly dirty they were. After trekking through city streets and all over Europe, they were looking a little… grimy.
My first challenge was acquiring the right cleaning products. My oxfords are suede (as well as one pair of my heels). Apparently leather cleaner and suede cleaner are two different things. As luck would have it, Target had everything I needed. I bought suede cleaner, suede protector, and leather cleaner for a grand total of $25.
To clean suede, you begin by using the brush cap to remove any dirt from the shoes. Afterwards, (in a well ventilated area, aka outdoors) spray a shoe with cleaner and brush. Repeat. Once the shoes have dried, spray them with protector.
My oxfords and heels looks SO much better! Of course, they’ll never look like brand new but they look like nicely, aged shoes.
Leather cleaning is a bit different. Apply a small amount of leather cleaner to a cloth and rub into the leather. Repeat until the entire shoe is done. Once dry, buff with a soft brush or cloth.
My biggest challenge was my J. Crew Riding Boots. I’ve had these for about 4 years and they’ve weathered many a winter. To say they were coated in salt and city would be an understatement. Just look how muted the color was. I can’t even begin to describe the change in their appearance and feel. It’s amazing.
All my leather shoes just soaked up the cleaner and look much more polished. My Tory Burch Revas look like new again.
This is how I became addicted to cleaning shoes. I highly recommend trying it. It’s so rewarding!
When I began writing this post, it was going to be a collection of great spring sweaters. Three sweaters in, I realized they all had stripes. I’ve written about my love of stripes in the past, but I finally succumbed to the fact that I may have an addiction.
There’s a bit in the TV show Happy Endings (fabulous, hilarious, watch if you aren’t) where the character Dave is given a V-neck intervention. Friends, you are welcome to begin my stripe-obsession-intervention.

One trend I’m happy to see maintain its staying power is the printed pant. Finally, the pant gets to be the statement! Last season, I purchased a pair of the ever popular Current/Elliot Leopard print jeans and to say I’ve gotten a lot of use out of them would be an understatement.
Mixing my love of prints and color, these spring pants are perfect for work or weekends. One trend I can’t support is wide-legged printed pants. It’s too much for me. If my bottoms are screaming, I want them to still have some semblance of sleek lines– not pajama bottoms.

Stella McCartney | Hawaiian-print silk pants
I always struggle choosing a favorite season. Top two is easy: spring and fall, but deciding on the best is too difficult. However, the exciting reincorporation of color gives spring a definite edge.

Juicy Couture | Straw and Burlap Fedora $68
J. Crew | Sydney Patent Sandals $228
Chan Luu | Set of five braided cotton friendship bracelets $65
Neon colors are a big trend for spring but they’re just so bright. I think a pop of neon is fun but I don’t want to look like Jubilee from the 90′s cartoon X-Men. Electric Blue is the perfect compromise between fun and sophistication.

Are you a fan of neon? I must admit that hot pink holds a special place in my heart.
