Carrot Cake

The best thing about birthdays is obviously the cake. Last year, my friends made the most amazing Peanut Butter Butterfinger Cake. It was unbelievably decadent and, seeing as I was a college student, I may have made it my main course for the day a few too many times. This year, I faced a dilemma.…

Thai-Style Chicken Toss

I love Thai food but when it comes to making my favorite dishes, I feel lazy. I really don’t want to trek to an ethnic market to gather ingredients. Thankfully, we have an easy family favorite recipe that tastes Thai but uses pantry staple ingredients. The key to this great toss is well-marinated chicken and an abundance of sauce. It’s quick to fry up and even better to eat. I always indulge a bit too much with Thai.

Sloppy Joes

I’ve never eaten a Manwich, or any other sort of commercially prepared Sloppy Joe. My first Sloppy Joe was made with this recipe, so while I have no comparisons, I still feel the need to say it’s the best. I make this recipe so often because I’m not a fan of hamburgers. I really don’t understand how they are so popular. I’d much rather have my ground beef simmered in brown sugar, tomato goodness, and seasonings. This easy recipe fills the void. It’s really not sloppy when you use a knife and fork. I would hate to waste any on my clothing.

Mom’s Chicken Parmesan

I associate Chicken Parmesan (or Chickie Chickie Parm Parm as Tom Haverford would call it) with special occasions. Whenever a family member was given the opportunity to request a meal, we would eat my Mom’s Chicken Parmesan. I love my mom’s version so much that I can no longer order the dish in the restaurants. Theirs are always over-seasoned, over-breaded, and under-sauced. Not my mom’s. Hers is simple, showcasing what Chicken Parmesan should be.

Roasted Tomato Soup with Broiled Cheddar

Is there any combination more comforting than tomato soup and grilled cheese? Last night I discovered there is. When I saw this recipe on Smitten Kitchen last week, I bookmarked faster than I’d ever bookmarked before. It. Was. Genius. She basically created a french onion soup but substituted in homemade roasted tomato soup. The ultimate comfort food loses the “and” in favor of “on”. Grilled cheese on tomato soup.

The Best of the Bow Blouses

It seems like every designer and their mother has created a bow blouse this season. And… I kind of adore them. I imagine they’ll flatter just about every size. How cute does Emma Pillsbury look in last week’s episode of Glee? That blouse was the only novel thing in the entire episode. Let’s not discuss how she’s affording Marc by Marc Jacobs on a high school counselor’s salary and instead focus on which color is cuter. I’m a sucker for pink. Tory Burch has created quite a few designs as well. I love this geometric printed sleeveless one best. According to the website, the bow detaches. I don’t know what…

Raspberry Streusel Bars

I like to think that eating a raspberry streusel bar for breakfast this morning was completely healthy. Two full sticks of butter are contributing some calcium. The top layer is full of oats, a heart healthy grain, and pecans, which are an excellent source of good fats. Also, there’s a layer of fruit! And not just any fruit– raspberries. Can we say fiber? These are seriously amazing. It’s really hard to go wrong with layered desserts. The bottom adds a delicious buttery base, supportive but still chewy. The middle is probably where this recipe shines. Fresh raspberries, raspberry preserves, and a bit of fresh lemon juice make a flavorful layer…
